|Interstellar|, a movie about going out to space to discover science that saves humanity. It's a good movie.
I watched it for the first time in 2016, when I was 12, in secondary 1 (equivalent to grade 7). Back then I was very intersted in science (I still am), but the Internet was pretty new to me, and I just hadn't lived long enough to accumulate the knowledge.
|My dad knew I would have great time watching it.| You know what? |I did.| I just didn't quite understand all the concepts the movie demonstrated. I barely knew the theory of relativity at the time. It was just a fancy word in my head. But it's still exciting to watch through all the scenes. Everything is so mysterious and imaginative.
So I really didn't think of it much for a while. I went through high school studying physics as one of my elective subjects and got into the computer science program in university. I also watched a lot more YouTube videos.
And then one day, during my year 3 summer holiday, the TV broadcaster randomly aired Interstellar again (because they are lame and always reuse copyrights they've bought). Suddenly, the thought came to mind: |I would be understanding much more of the film with my new knowledge in physics and maths.| I gave the movie another go.
|It's the best idea ever.| Not only did I understand much more of it, I also watched it from a different angle. During some scenes, I tried to think about "What would it be like if someone's watching this for the first time?"
"They would be so satisfied by the end." The echoes in the plots are so well done. You can watch all the plot holes be filled and release that dopamine in your brain.
Beyond that, the movie made sense to me this time! I have spent enough of my spare time learning about time dilation, space-time bending, higher dimension and what not, that everything in the film is understandable for me. (Not gonna spoil it for those who haven't watched, even though it's been like 11 years)
Go watch it if you haven't.
